Having lived almost all of her life in Indiana, Karen now calls North Carolina home.  She is excited about becoming an innkeeper, but
Bachelor of Social Work degree from Indiana State University.  She also has a Master of Divinity degree and was ordained in the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  She came to New Bern to serve a church as pastor and is currently taking a break from
ministry.  The other churches she has served are in Indiana.  She has two young adult daughters, both in the field of medicine: one a
nurse in Indianapolis, IN and one a doctor in Greenville, NC.  Karen was widowed in Jan., 2003.

Michael lived in Florida until he and Karen married in May 2005.  He grew up in Hollywood, Fl., went to college in Atlanta and then
moved back to Florida where he received his graduate degree from Stetson University. He was a professional Chief Assistant and
carried the flag of "Liberties Last Champion" for 20 years before retiring from the Public Defenders Office in the Tampa Bay area.  He
also served as an Adjunct Professor at his Alma Mata.  He and his wife of 25 years raised two sons before the untimely death of his
wife in Jan, 2003.  One son still lives in Phoenix, AZ, where he manages his own Landscape Company, and his younger son is serving
on active duty in the United States Army.

Michael moved to New Bern in 2005 and worked at one of New Bern's finest hotels for two years.  This brought him to the realization
that being "of service" to guests seems to be both natural and most enjoyable.  It also sparked an interest in becoming an Innkeeper.
Recently he has taken a part-time position as Case Manager for the Homeless Shelter at Religious Community Services where his
calling to be “of service” has taken on even greater meaning.

Two years after the far too early passing of both Karen's and Michael's spouses, they met through the wonders of the Internet.  They
courted through e-mails and lengthy phone conversations and then married a short time after meeting personally for the first time.
The ceremony, on Pentecost Sunday, was a surprise event for both sets of families, both sets of friends, and even for Karen's
congregation who hosted the event.  However, it was no real surprise to Karen & Michael, for they feel like they have been partners in
life forever.

Matching Michael's background, and experience with Karen's makes for a wonderful combination to provide a most enjoyable
experience on your part as their Guests.  Michael and Karen want to make you feel comfortable with them as your hosts and want to
get to know you and hope that when you "sail in" to the Sail Inn you will have a truly memorable voyage.
